For gaming you wouldn't really see any difference from going to an i5 to an i7. I'd recommend an i5 4670k for full out gaming and I heard it overclocks well but if you think you might do some video rendering, or just want faster multi-tasking getting an Xeon with 4c/8t (Bascilly a plain i7) for like $30 more.

For MoBos depends on the price range... but for $200+ most motherboards overclock well.... for $135 the ASUS Z97M-PLUS is a good board :)

Edit: Xeons are locked so no overclocking but for the price of an i5 that is basically like an i7, why not? :D

ASRock Z97 Extreme4
ASUS Z97M PLUS
MSI Z97-G45 Gaming

are all pretty good and reliable mobos :)

A 4690k and an Asrock Z97x Killer would be my pick, if you want to overclock. An i7 4790k is fine, if you want the multitasking capability of the i7.

You don't need an i7 if you are gaming XD

should be able to my 3570k runs at 4.4ghz on air and its 2 years older than 4690k i would just keep it at like 4ghz tho so the cpu will last you a longer time as running it out of spec decreases longevity.

so do you think I should have a air cooler rather than a water cooled close loop one like corsair h60 I?
