My desktop PC's Gigabyte P75 D3 board is a tyrant. It doesn't seem to support any USB WiFi adapter. I've tried three different USB WiFi adapters with different chipsets, but the board doesn't seem to support any. It detects the adapters and drivers install successfully. Then it shows the signal bars in the taskbar, but with a cross sign, meaning no network is detected. (Of course I'm within range of the router.) The same goes for Windows 8 and Windows 7 alike. The WiFi adapter shows up in device manager with working properly status, Whenever I unplug the adapter, the WiFi goes away from device manager too. It means the devices are detected by the computer, but can't put them into work to get signal.

Tried fresh windows installs, but to no avail.

But, all the WiFi adapters work perfectly in every other PC I've tested, with exactly the same drivers.

Could you please help me with a workaround so that I can put these adapters to work with my desktop PC? Thank you.

This might be a stupid question, but have you tried different usb ports on the motherboard? I've had similar issues with (2) wireless USB adapters on a 1155 socket as well.

I'd also try downloading the most recent drivers for both the motherboard chipset and the USB 3.0 drivers.

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I tried all ports on the board, even the front headers. Okay, I'll install the chipset drivers and try again. I'll report back with the results.

An update: Just now I tried an Ubuntu Live CD and it's getting signal! So I can not blame the mainboard entirely. So we see now that wifi is working in Linux, but not windows.

What could the problem possibly be?

Thank you, Dwatterworth. LAN has already been disabled through BIOS, because I do not use LAN.

Finally, following your instruction that pointed out about the Chipset and USB driver issue, today I solved the problem!

Here's what I did:

Installed a clean Win 8. WiFi not recognised.

Installed WiFi driver. Guess what? WiFi recognised!

Installed USB 3.0 drivers. Poof! WiFi gone!

So it seems USB 3.0 drivers are the main culprits! I just reinstalled the Windows and let the USB 3.0 default to Microsoft drivers rather than the Intel drivers. And WiFi works now!

Thanks a lot, again, for helping me! :) Best answer to you!
