So, the GTX 980 was recently announced and I notice only a few companies are actually providing the card, neither of which interest me. My questions is whether I should upgrade my graphics card right now to a GTX 980 that interests me or wait for the GTX 980ti.

My core build:
ASrock extreme6 Z87 Motherboard
Intel i5 4670k 3.40ghz
Patriot Sector 5 12gb DDR3 RAM @ 1600mhz (OC)
Rocketfish 900W PSU
Galaxy 3gb GTX 660ti

I was wondering if the processor will bottleneck a GTX 980, because if so, then there would be no point in getting a GTX 980ti unless I were willing to upgrade the processor, which I won't be doing for a while. Keep in mind this is strictly for gaming purposes.
Thank you for your help and responses!

It won't bottleneck it... The cpu will handle easy 2x 780ti And maybe wait a month or two.

No i would say wait, its too expensive right now.. maybe a couple of months when price lowers. No it wont bottleneck. The thing is when cards come out they are always expensive. To be honest i dont really care about the new cards, I have a 680 and i bought it when it was relatively new in 2012. Cost me about 650... and im still happy with it. The point is you can never keep up with technology. Its a waste even trying to keep up. Today you will spend 700 or whatever on the 980 and next year there will be a better card which will outperform the 980 for the same price. In my opinion just do SLI. you will see the difference. Theres no need for a 980.. if you really want to than do a 970 SLI. its will be much faster than a single 980 >> 35% better than a single 980 yet you almost pay the same price. Just a couple of thoughts. Good Luck!

Well these are 28nm chips, in March 2015 nvidia will release 20nm chip gpu so if you can waith March, would be good :D

Maybe they will even skip 20nm and go for 16nm, who knows heuheuheu

While it could be true that the GTX 780 ti would be better at higher resolutions than the GTX 980, I'm gaming strictly on 1080p and at most would upgrade to 1440p currently. This means I would either go for a GTX 980 or a GTX 970. I've read everywhere that people should get a GTX 970 if they are gaming on anything less than 1440p, but it would be a shame to limit myself after spending over $300. Keep in mind I am coming from a simple GTX 660 ti so it will be a huge upgrade either way.

I don't get the whole 'if using 1080p only get this card' mentality...

New games require better cards. If you get a 970 now, it might max out some games, but you still might not get 60fps in all games.... Probably not even with the 980... But the 980 would last longer.

With that said, I'd go for the 970.

That's what I'm saying, new games always use more resources. Simply because I'm gaming on a lower resolution doesn't mean my system can't still take advantage of the higher power output. Thank you for your opinion, though! I will take it into consideration!

hey i think if you get a 980 you will be extremely happy, but iff i where you ill wait untill the big maxwell comes, so these big inflated prices for medium tier maxwell will drop to there normal price and then pick one up!
