Hi all,

I recently built a pc with the following components:

Mobo: msi 940a-g46
CPU: AMD phenom 2 x4 945 o/c to 3.38ghz
Gpu: Asus GeForce gtx 650 2gb ddr5
Ram: 2x 4gb Kingston hyperx fury white 1866mhz
Hdd: 7200rpm 1tb Samsung
Psu: 650w

When I first set the pc up I noticed that I only had 4gb of ram usable (8.00gb installed). Using CPU-z I saw that the ram was running in single channel mode.

I changed the ram to slots 1 and 3, but still only 4gb usable and single channel.

The only way I have been able more ram usable is by downclocking the ram to 1033mhz but still only 6.97gb are usable.

Has anybody else had this same issue?

What else can I do to try and get the full 8gb working and if I can also running at the rated 1866mhz?

Thanks
Jordan

Try slots 2 and 4 thats what my computer is like. And if that doesnt work try looking in the Mother board manual for Ram configurations. Also sometimes on older boards or refurbished boards some ram slots may be unactive by default you can change this in the bios

Think about the best you might get is 1333, it wasn't until the 965 Rev C3 CPU came out that AMD had a CPU that could reliably run 1600 sticks, I'd try manually setting to 1333 9-9-9-27 1.5 and see how that goes

As I said I have 6.97gb working now so the slots are active and both dimms being used, just not to their full potential

Wouldnt the GPU use some of it? Is BIOS 2.6 on it?

The ddr2 system that I upgraded from had this same gpu installed on it before I transferred it over and that system gave me full use of all of the RAM.

I've checked the bios and yeah it's 2.6, the latest bios available.

See if theres an option like memory remap in the BIOS. See if its enabled

I've just tried these settings and confirmed they took effect using CPU-Z. I now have 6.97gb usable at 1333mhz but still missing 1gb.

Regarding memory mapping, I can't seem to find anything that mentions it in the Bios

System may be allocating it to the GPU

If that is the case is it better to leave ~1gb with the GPU and just be happy with 7Gb of ram?

Pretty much, not a whole lot you can do to change anything
