Is this possible? Running a phone from a sim card reader?

So my phone is being sent in for repairs, however, it may take up to three weeks for it to get back to me. In the meantime, I was looking for a cheap alternative to make sure I don't miss any messages or whatnot.

I know sim card readers are a popular thing and not that expensive, so is there any way that I can plug that into the computer and get data such as messages and other things.

If not, what is the cheapest way to stay (somewhat) in touch over the next three weeks? Thank you

I don't believe you can make calls, or send messages with a sim card reader. I believe they're primary use is for backing up, and transferring your contacts and what-not.

You can't run the card in a reader as a phone, but you can buy a cheap used phone that is on the same carrier as yours and just use your card in it. When yours is back, sell the temporary phone.
