I'm building a gaming pc and originally went with an AMD gpu. But after talking to some people, A few of them said that the EVGA is better. So whiich one is better peformance wise?

Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X Video Card

As if this chart tells the whole story. It doesn't, with the GTX 970 you'll also get a card that is cooler, quieter, uses less power, offers full DirectX 12 support and access to exclusive graphics settings like DSR, MFAA, TXAA, FXAA, PhysX, HBAO+, and Adaptive VSync.

I also would like to ask if you plan to play any games that will support mantle as this can hugely affect your decision. personally for me i like evga and nvidia so if you are not going to use mantle go with that card.

I recommend that you go with a Nvidia based GPU, the software and drivers are much nicer. The Gtx 970 is currently the second best GPU in the world.
Refer to this chart - http://videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

The 970 is better in just about every way. Its faster in games, uses less power, and produces less heat. The 290 might mine better, and has mantle support but that's about it. I have only seen Mantle make a big difference if you have a cpu bottleneck and the 4690k will not be a bottleneck.

Setup looks good the only change i would make(other than the 970) is change that EVGA g1 to either a g2 or a b2 they are much better than the older b1 and g1 units.
