PCI-Express GPU in a normal PCI slot?

I have a spare GPU, lower end, and I'm wondering if I could plug it into my PCI port, to use it for a second monitor, in order to reduce usage on my main GPU. (Although I know it might cause instability, one is a Radeon, the other is a GeForce series card.)

Nooo noo noo noonononon... you cannot mix those two cards. In order to utilize two cards in a system they have to be Crossfire or SLI. Geforce is SLI and Radeon is Crossfire. You cannot mix those cards unless you have a hybrid board, but that isn't really good.... you cannot utilize both cards in the same system.

Also I forgot to mention the cards have to be the exact same card.... e.g. if you buy a XFX 7970, you have to buy another XFX 7970 to Crossfire. If you want to SLI...

Sir you cannot utilize a Radeon Card and a Geforce Card. They are both different in drivers.. and different everything. Radeon is crossfire and geforce is SLI... he cannot use two different types of cards in his RIG.. also Dovawolf.. depending on your board it might not be able to support two cards... can you tell me what it is?

I think we are all missing one major issue here... Reading the subject it states PCI-Express GPU in a normal PCI slot?". It's not a question of cross fire or sli but slots. So unless I missed something you cannot put a PCI express card in a normal PCI slot... it just won't fit and was not designed for that card.

No. PCI and PCI-e are completely different physically.

Actually you can use a Nvidia and AMD card in the same system SLI and Crossfire don't even enter the picture. It's just usually a major hassle to get the drivers to play nicely. Even when using multiple AMD or Nvidia cards they don't have to be SLI or Crossfire compatible if you are just looking to add monitors. SLI and Crossfire are ony needed when you want to combine the cards for more performance. I have made many multi-monitor rigs where the main card was a beefy gaming card and then had a couple other cheaper cards installed just for more monitors. I do make sure they all use the same driver, not because its required(except in vista) but because it makes the process easier.

I can't believe I even asked this question. Wow.
This is the kind of thing that would make my hair stand on end now!
I've been really into hardware since then, and am now studying for my A+ certification.
Thanks for not letting me stay confused!
