Hello guys just git a new ASUS R9 290X GPU here and it looks like something is wrong. Like always after putting card in I got new Drivers and I see new Bios on official support page so I decided to update. After clicking exe file I got no prompt no compare or are you sure three time I saw updating window , after around 45 second I got this window. Nothing really happened. After very first boot I can't boot up. My ASUS Mobo giving me 1 long + 3 short beeps.... I am stuck. Luckily version of card I have have a switch, performance and regular mode, after switching to regular mode computer indeed boot up and now I am trying to figure out what a hell is going on. But in the end I want to get that performance bios updated as well as regular one. Can anyone help ?

After months and months of having problem and using port 3 only I THINK (still not sure) managed to figure out what's happening. I decided to get rid of my R9 290X for a favor of dual GTX980 in SLI. I installed them in PCIx slot 1 and 3 as recommended in X99 Deluxe manual. And right away when some 3D graphics came in I got complete PC reboot. Not like last time when I had some poor 3D performance and lags. Anyhow what I did is replaced PSU once again but this time I went with high end AX860 and ....... so far I hadn't had any issues. I did burn in tests and 3DMARK ultra tests . So far so good. I can't bilive that was it because I did tried brand new power supply before with R9 290X. only 600WATT Green from Rosewill but I thought it was...

Well I really like the saying "If it ain't broke - don't fix it" - why on Earth would you flash BIOS of a brand new card? The best way to flash BIOS when it's needed is from DOS before even going into Windows. Windows flashing tools often mess things up. Check on the website if you can get a DOS flashing program and try reflashing it with it. Read the "read me" file or the instructions carefully before starting and don't forget to switch to the broken BIOS before flashing - you don't want to end up with 2 broken BIOSes.

You're totally correct ! It was something like. "Hmm let me see what it is" was trying to see what version of bios and look it up what it actually does, instead I got BAM .. updating ..... like no warning no nothing, like nothing at all. I am reading on this specific 0FL01 Error and people saying i can use dos atiflash tool and IF I can put my old GPU in to PCIx_1 slot and put new card with broken BIOS in to other slot like PCIx_3 or 4 with bios switch to Performance mode that Broken it'll be able to flash.

Now another thing about why I download damn thing to begin with is this.

FROM ASUS SUPPORT SITE

Description VBIOS update for R9290X-DC2OC-4GD5
Enhanced R9290X-DC2OC-4GD5 stability

Stability ....... I mean you know what I mean I want latest and greatest .... Anyhow if anyone experienced with updating GPU bios using another card like putting 2 different cards on the board please let me know cause I See this guide and it looks legit and exactly what I want

Hey,

I just checked their support site and saw it's only an exe file. I'm not at home at the moment to try but sometimes you are able to open exe files with WinRar or similar and extract the BIOS only file so you could use to manually flash it.

I'm pretty sure you can RMA the card since it was the BIOS from their official site you were using when it got messed up but it could be a long and frustrating wait for the RMA.

I found this http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18552408 if you want to check it out - maybe it will work for you.

I'm not sure but I think the i7 5930K you've got doesn't have some integrated GPU, does it? I guess it would've helped if you could use some onboard graphics and try to flash the corrupted BIOS of the 290x this way. If the CPU indeed doesn't have the onboard graphics I guess you could ask a friend to do it on his PC if his CPU has integrated GPU.

Here is what is my plan. I'll use my old pcix card in slot 1 and move 290x to slot pcix 3. I already checked atiflash indeed works with my USB stick with does on it I managed to access and backup current bios. Hopefully when I put both cards in and switch bios switch on 290x to broken bios I'll be able to boot with old card yet using atiflash access bios on second card and make proper flash. Only one thing I do not see .ROM bios file for 290z that is new according to Asus new bios v1.2 should be dated around September 7, 2014. Anyone can point out new bios file ? Because inside exe from Asus I see like 15 .ROM files designed for different cards I don't know what is what.

Thanks.
