I Live in a two floor apartment and set up my wifi months ago. My dell Inspiron had no problem picking up the signal from any room up until a week ago. It suddenly stopped getting a signal unless it's in the same room as the router. It's not that I can't connect at all and it's not the router placement because it was fine before and my boyfriends laptop is still connecting fine. My wifi adapter is up to date and there's no interference on the router channel. Help!

Solution
WiFi card or antenna inside is broken, they are cheap and easy to fix though, take the keyboard out and it is underneath in a mini pcie slot. I replaced mine for £10 with a newer model. Intel wifi chips work just get the same one you have now

I am having the same problem after getting my laptop back from HP Repair. Thinking antenna might have come loose in shipping or while being repaired. I took off the keyboard but can't figure out how to get under the metal plate. Can you tell me how to get to the WIFI card.
