Hey guys, been a while since I've been on here.

I'm planning on upgrading from my current budget build PC to a higher end gaming rig. I currently have an AMD 8320 and GTX 760, which isn't too bad. Obviously, I'll be using Intel for the new high end PC I am planning. Basically, I know that my current PC will not last for another year or two with my high expectations :)  So I am wondering if my new one will last at least 3 years on high settings with at least 60 FPS on new games.

Here is the new PC: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BxYZWZ
You'll notice that I have no RAM or Storage, I'll be using my RAM and HDD from my old PC (kingston hyperx 16gb and a seagate 1tb)

So yea, I was just wondering if you guys would make any changes to this PC and how long you think it will last with the expectations I mentioned earlier.

Thanks a lot guys! :ange:

ADD an SSD and 3 years no problem.

Heheh SDD will defiantly be an addition sooner or later. So 3 years no problem, how long would you say until I need an upgrade? Also would it be best to up the cpu or gpu?

Yes, it will almost certainly do what you asked.

Personally, I am a cheap S.O.B., so I would say you can take it easy on the graphics card and aim for more of the $250-$300 range and you will still have an excellent machine. You pay a ton more for extra performance at the top end. Although in your case, that's not too far above what you've got now.

You know what, on second thought, screw it. Your machine now is fine. I'd wait a year and see what's on the market then, unless you're unhappy with the performance you're getting currently.

Going from above-average to cutting-edge is a lot more expensive these days, and for less return, than it was a few years ago. It's getting off of a below-average machine to an acceptable one that makes the most difference.

To be honest, I know exactly what you mean about keeping my PC, It's just that the other week, I damaged my motherboard, and I have gotten into DayZ which I get 20-40 fps on :/

Man the 4790k fixed all my issues, sit the AMD game out unti they get their processor game together.
I played Arma 2/3 and Day Z at 20-40fps too with a R9 290 and 8350
Ever since I got the 4790k I'm never under 50 in most servers with a few tweaked settings.

A 4790k and a GTX 980 wuld be a great option, but a word of advice, wait until AMD releases their new cards so that competition drives the price below what it is now (Gigabyte wasn't $615 for theirs, when reference is $550..)
And who knows, maybe you'll want a 390 or 290x instead ;)

But yeah, i7 4790k, 980/390, and a general Z97 in the $150-$170 range would suffice for at least 2-3 more years in 1080p. Get a $170-$200 board if you want to OC the 4790k a ton, plus extra mobo features are always fun (love my Asus Z97 Pro, glad I didn't get a lower model) I'd suggest a Z97 Gaming 7 if you don't roll Asus mobos and want a cheaper price.

yeah, I was thinking about the new AMD cards but I've always been scared of them (maybe the fanboy in me comes out) as people usually warn about drivers and say that all AMD cards offer is raw power, while the nvidia cards could offer this (pricier, yes) and some newer technologies. I love recording my gameplay, maybe not for youtube but just because :p  and I have fallen in love with GeForce Experience and Shadow Play.

I was hoping to get this PC before the end of the year, and of course, I'll take your advice to heart and look into the 3xx cards from AMD, just curious as to a release date?

Thanks :)

well no one has any ideas. If you love Nvidia stick with them and get a 980, but wait until late 2014 I'd say because no doubt the prices will go down for them by then.
AMD now has its own recording software like Shadowplay too though now
Just food for thought ;)

Oh yea, for sure, was just starting to save up soon lol. I expect it within 2-3 months ;)
But I'm glad it will last, I feel like I've put more money into constant upgrades for a medium PC than a one time nice PC :)

It's worth while in my eyes. Had a 6100/gt640 build, and was gonna upgrade that. It was a far better idea to get an 8350/290 (which turned out to be a bad idea, cause nobody seems to tell you that the 8350 is a bottleneck for anything past a 770/280x)
Now that I got an i7, everything is smooth with a 290, and a 980 is a whole nother 20% faster than my card.
You should be fine for quite some time.

Yup, I'll try to go for this :)  Something I'm seeing though, is people claiming the 780ti to be faster... should I look into that?

What you've put together is fine. An SSD will allow you to see how fast your machine will be. Graphics cards come out all the time. So wait until your card falls 2 or 3 tiers below the latest and greatest before upgrading parts. Your I7 should last abit longer, enjoy.

So I don't want to hijack the thread (sorry in advance) but...
I got a 290 I paid $500 for thanks to mining, and now the 970 is onlt $330 and is even faster. I want more power, but a second R9 290 is still $250-$300 used on Ebay. Should I sell my 290 for the little I can get back and get a 390x/980 for $550, or should I go all the way and get 2 380x's at like $300-$350 each (= CF 290x in performance)???

Either way I lose tons of money thatnks to the 290's depreciation... what should I do? I want to play 1440p with 2 1080p's on the side in mixed eyefinity.
