Hey what would be the best brand for GTX 980 and the version cooler and what does the version cooler do? Does it improve the baseclock automatically? or is that just like an estimate if you are going to overclock?

It honestly doesn't matter on the cooler... The new chips use so little power now.. a reference design would be proficient.

But as your looking to OC a better cooler would be handy, EVGA has always been reliable with there ACX design.

I chose the EVGA superclock 980 in order to get the card with the most reliable chip, and hence the better chance of higher clocking. When they test the chips, only those that pass a stability test at the higher clock are sold as "superclock". While it is not true that all non-superclock models are not capable of higher clocking, you just don't know which ones were designated that way versus which ones failed the higher clock stability test. The superclock model gives a 1342 MHz boost clock in a reference package.

As Dazinek wrote, these cards are so much more efficient, they just don't need the typical game card cooling packages...unless you are trying to push the envelope very far. And if that's the case, I still would not recommend a game card cooling scheme- if you really want to push the clock envelope, buy a superclock/overclock reference model (one with a proven high-stability chip), and add your own liquid cooling. It would be much easier to add liquid cooling to a reference card than a game card.
