I have been out of town for 2 months and now when i switch on my pc after the bios a message pops up "reboot and select proper boot device" .. I tried changing the sata port from ide to ahci, changed the sata cable , checked all sata ports, restored the default settings but nothing worked. It detects the hdd in bios but doesn't boot from it . I don't have any dvd writer, external hdd or anything occupying sata port except my hdd.
Specs:
Fx 8320
Asus m5a99fx
Corsair vs 650
Crucial 8gb 1600mhz
Seagate 1tb hdd

Do you have a mobile phone plugged in? Or a USB key? It sounds like another device is trying to boot.

Bring up your boot menu on your motherboard (Usually F8 or F11 wen booting, it should state on your BIOS splash screen) and manually select the boot SATA drive

Hey there xrock8,

Have you checked the boot order in BIOS? Maybe something happened there. Make sure your drive is in first place.
Do you have a place where you can test your drive for errors (a different computer)? I would check for any bad sectors and its S.M.A.R.T. status to see if the problem is in the drive itself or somewhere else. Try running a test from the BIOS to check your whole system (run-in test).
You could check the drive on a different computer with chkdsk or simply plug it in with a SATA to USB cable.
As @Mike_Tech suggested, do you have anything else plugged in (mouse, keyboard, USB Flash drive, phone, tablet, etc.)?

Keep us posted on how this is going,

Captain_WD.
