So I was messing with unofficial Windows 8 add-ons, one of which turned out to be for Windows 7, either that or it was messed up. Either way, I had to restore my computer, after which it came up my Lan card stopped showing up in device manager and trying to install the drivers I got the error "installer can't find atheros ar81family ethernet controller". I'm just now finding out the built in Lan card of my ASRock FM2A88X Extreme6+ is the Qualcomm Atheros AR8171. Well I went back to Windows 7 and installed the same driver to find out it works, well I've tried looking it up but all I come up with is this site:https://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?ch...

But it doesn't help seeing as how it doesn't show up at all in Windows 8 even though it used to and it still shows in Windows 7.

Can anyone help me? I've tried looking for older versions and I can't find any, I've thought about flashing bios but I'm using that as a last resort, my current bios is 1.60

Is it possible there is a needed update for Windows 8 that I need? If so can anyone point me in some direction?

I want to use Windows 8 because I don't wanna pay for Windows 7 from some random seller, and I already bought/own Windows 8

There is the chipset drivers for your motherboard for Windows 8 (Make sure u know if you need 32 or 64bit and verify if you have windows 8 or 8.1) Hope this helps!

I have already downloaded the drivers needed for my motherboard and chipset, I get this error when trying to install Atheros Lan driver ver:2.1.0.21 "Installer can't find Qualcomm Atheros AR81Family ethernet controller on your system."

This is driving me insane.
Thanks for trying to help though! :)

OK, well my non-smart self, decided hey I should take out the random stick of ram I got from a friend, maybe that'll work, I mean I only read about trying that 50 times, I didn't think it would work, but it did! So, lesson learned, don't undermine the technique of unplugging components and trying again! WOOHOO! :bounce:
