I just saw the trailers for Mass Effect series, and I wanna get Mass Effect 3, but I don't know if I should do it or if I should get Mass Effect 2 and 1 first. Though honestly speaking I don't think I will get the 2 earlier games, so will I be able to understand the story of Mass Effect 3 ? I can read the plots for the first two games on wikipedia though, but will that be enough ?

Well, I don't own the games, but from what I've read they are indeed connected. You'll mostly understand the main part of the story, but you'll miss the character backstories and the "behind the scene" details, which can leave you with a slight sense of confusion on the "whys" and "whats" of some events/relationships.

If I were you, I'd get the former two before, but that's just me.

I would suggest playing the first 2 before the 3rd.

I would also recommend playing the first two. That is if you're really into developing your character as well as with the other characters in the game. The writers did a wonderful job of creating a connection with the player and the NPCs and their transitions through each game. if you don't care about that stuff just play the third, it is awesome. Imo by far the absolute best was the first of the series. Have fun!

You miss out on like 2/3rds of the story by jumping to the final chapter.

You also miss the chance to make a lot of the unique key choices that change what can happen in the 3rd game.

It's easiest to be OP from this start as well : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIXSuodMIN0

the story are heavily connected between the series so jumping to play to the third game from the get go might not bring the right feel about the game since the game is heavily story driven. but if you can make do by just reading the story part then you can try yourself. personally i have tried that and regret that on halfway of my play through in ME 3. personally i never finish the first game myself. i play the second without using 1st game save but it did not affect much my experience (even for the story). but for the third....i can't say the same. i end up getting other people save on ME1 and start over my ME2 play through before playing ME 3
