Hello,
I could use your expertise...
System build:
VGA: EVGA 01G-P3-1561-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB (Fermi)
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge Quad-Core
Mobo: ASRock Z77 Extreme6 LGA 1155
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
I built this build 2 years ago, and it has run fine until now. A few days ago, in the middle of normal use, it just died. It wouldn't power up or show any signs of life. No lights, no fans, nothing.
At my friend's house, we swapped out the PSU, and we ran it for 2 hours. Updated drivers, updated BIOS. There were a few restarts involved. Ran fine. We shut it down properly. I got it home, and it ran for 1.5 hours, and then died again. Again, no signs of life afterward. I try unplugging components from the PSU and try running to see any result, but still dead.
Yesterday, I plug it in again and it boots. I am able to load windows and log in, but it dies about a minute after the desktop loads. Then, it is unable to start again at all; again, no sign of life.
I pulled out the mobo to do a breadboard construct on it, so just mobo, CPU, CPU fan, 1 HDD, 1 RAM stick on the mobo box. No sign of life last night after the crash noted above.
This morning, the breadboard loads and runs to the same point (1 minute after desktop) and crashes. Again it won't power up afterward.
Update for this evening:
When I came home from work, I tried the breadboard construct. It ran. Windows loaded. It seemed to be running fine. I downloaded a CPU test (one from Intel), and the CPU passed. I shutdown and added my other 3 RAM sticks.
It then proceeded to run successfully for about 3 hours. I ran a virus scan (clear) and monitored temps via HWMonitor. I will paste results below. I was able to use the computer normally during this time (just internet and email in addition to the scans). Then it died.
After death, I am getting some signs of life. I read on another thread about trying to remove any remaining power in the system. So I unplug the power supply but leave it on, then hold down the power button on the motherboard for a few seconds. Afterward, I plug the power supply back in, and the computer starts up and begins loading, but again dies after a few seconds. Not sure if that means anything.
Any idea what might cause this weird chain of results? Thank you.
