System info:
CPU/2600k (stock clock)
GPU/Asus gtx570
Mobo/ MSI P67a-GD65
PSU/ Corsair AX850
Two HDDs

I built my PC in early march of 2012. All parts new and intact. I gamed on it very heavily, most my Battlefield 3 and Skyrim with lots of mods.its never had a hiccup until now. Recently when I shutdown my computer completely it won't turn back on. During a day of trouble shooting I left my phone plugged into the USB and it turned on once I held down the power button.

I was confused. People mentioned it could be a heat issue, but my temps are always good. People also said it could be my PSU, but is also good. It endures many hours of heavy gaming and video editing without a hiccup. No foul smell coming from it and its dust free.

Months later my PC has progressed to the point I need to plugin my phone and tablet into the USB and hold down the power button for it to start. Now I'm very concerned and have taken my PC apart to make sure all standoffs were doing their job and all internal connections were firmly connected.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like its most likely your PSU. Try it with another PSU and see if it turns right on and works. I bet it will. There doesnt have to be a bad smell or a physical indication something broke, in order for it to actually be malfunctioning or dying.
