CPU + GPU not giving max ingame

Hi everyone. I play WOT and get about 40-60 FPS with Core i5 2500 and R9 280x. Everyone tells me I'm fine, but just out of curiosity I tested, generated logfile and found out that while playing my CPU and GPU load is maxed at around 60% both. So, the question is why not higher load higher FPS?

Solution

His CPU is perfectly fine. He probably just has v-sync on since he didn't report getting higher than 60fps. I would assume the dips into the 40's is because of high antialiasing settings. World of Tanks isn't that heavy of a game. Definitely not a CPU bound game and even if it was a 2500 would perform good.

Also regarding your signature I find it funny that an FX-8350 is an AM3+ CPU and the Asus Maximus VI Formula is a socket 1150 motherboard. (aka Intel only) The only ROG motherboard on the AM3+ platform is the Crosshair V Formula Z so there is no AMD...

What antialiasing settings are you using? 8X MSAA or any type or SSAA is too intensive even for a 280X. Your CPU load in games generally never hits 100%. Also if you have v-sync on then you won't max out your GPU as it caps your maximum fps to your monitor's refresh rate (60Hz in this occasion).

thank you for replies. I'll answer generally on the matter:

1) yes, i had v-sync, BUT i get max 65 fps at times with v-sync off, so...
2) WOT has only 1 type of AA - FXAA. Got it enabled. All game settings maxed.

I repeat, both CPU and GPU load don't exceed 60%.

Here' s my Skyrim tests for 20min gameplay. Yes, heavily modded, with ENB. But still, why both CPU and GPU dont go into full load& That's what bothers me. Not even turbo clocks for CPU for Skyrim - heavy CPU game

On my 7970 (which is the same card as a 280X) I remember Trine 2 being capable of maxing out my card at pure 100% load with v-sync off on both an 8350 and a 4670K at fully maximum settings.

If you wanted to you could try it if you own it. Also what driver version are you running on?
