Hey guys my pc is slowly becoming old news. It's still good but it's def time to upgrade to keep up with the games. I'd like to change my cpu from amd to intel. So ill need to know what's a great mother board I'll need as well as a top of the line cpu good for over clocking. Here's my stats:

AMD FX-4100 3.60 GHz Quad-Core AM3+ CPU 4MB L2 Cache & Turbo Core Technology (I got it overclocked to about 3900 Mhz)

8GB (2GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory

AMD Radeon HD 7970 3GB

650 Watt corsair power supply

1TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 32MB Cache 7200RPM HDD

GigaByte GA-970A-D3 AMD 970 Socket AM3+ ATX Mainboard

I'd like a great intel cpu, at least 6 to 8 cores that I can over clock very high and a motherboard that can handle the cpu and all the tweeking. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

An i5 4690k, or an i7 4790k, with a Z97x killer, would be my pick. You do not need a six or 8 core CPU for gaming.

That would be a very expensive upgrade when you can simply drop in an fx8350 and a good cooler for less than 200 overclock to 4.5-5 ghz. Intel does have the best single threaded performance, but it sounds like you are looking for more threads with the 6-8 core cpu's.

If money is no object then the i7 mentioned about is a good idea, but I would take a serious look at the fx 8350/8320 if you want to save a buck and get a huge leap in performance without having to go through the hassle of swapping platforms.

Logain. I really think I'm going to order the i7 and the killer. I'm not familiar with Intel so this question will sound ridiculous lol, but, will my radion gpu be compatible with that line up? Also, I want to upgrade my gpu as well soon, what are some great top of the line choices that will compliment that set up?

The GPU will be fine. If you would look at my sig, you would see I am running Intel with an HD 7970, myself. ;)

Oh nice thank you. I have a couple more questions if u wouldn't mind. I've done a lot of work to my rig but never swapped a mobo and cpu platform. I know how to do it but what else would I need to do? Say I completely installed the mobo and cpu, at that point would I be able to fire up the pc? Or would there need to be some sort of software installation? Also, I'd like my rig to max out top of the line games again, very high anti aliasing and effects and view distances etc...my gpu is clocked at 1075, should I go ahead and get a faster one since it's about 2 years old? If so what would u recommend? Annnnd, will my power supply handle all this? Loo. Thanks alot for Ur feedback btw

You will need to reinstall windows, once everything is hooked up and running. Your HD 7970 is still a pretty solid card. The GTX 970 is a nice card, if your really want to upgrade the GPU. Our GPU's are roughly the same as an R9 280x.
