I hope this is the right category.

So I have a very odd problem with my computer. It worked fine, and suddenly, one day, it started to do this:

It is shut down. I press the power button, lights and LEDs light up, air-coolers start their work. There is a noise which I can not explain, that I can't hear (When it starts up normally I hear that sound.. Maybe its the HD). Then suddenly, like a gunshot, everything stops. Then it tries to reboot, but this happens every damn time. The solution I found is to turn off the computer by the power switch at the back of it, turn it back on, and then boot (So basically cut it off for a few seconds). In this case, everything works like a charm.

This is extremely annoying. Do you have any idea what this is?

Thanks in advance (Sry for my possibly bad English)

You probably have a power supply issue. The fact that your computer runs after you turn off the power supply switch indicates to me that your motherboard has no problems. The power supply probably has a surge problem and is shorting out.

on newer pc if the motherboard cant set the ram speed timing the mb will shut down...power on and shut down till it can set the speed right. issues like that happen on asus mb if performance mode is turned on or rig is over clocked and the ram speed is set wrong or a dimm went bad. if a hard drive controller or spindal motor is going bad is can pull more power through the sata ports and cause the mb to hang or reset. unplug the drive power and data cable see if the error still there. the last issue is a bad fan or gpu or power supply. check for wires in the fans or anything clogging them. unplug the case fans one at a time see if the noise stops. check the cpu and power supply fan see if the power supply fan is bound.

Thanks for your answer! OK, if it is a Power Supply problem, what should I do? Can I check it somehow (whether it is faulty)?

if you have a volt meter you can jumper the green wire to black ground wire and turn the power supply on. then read the voltage outputs with a meter. or if a local shop has a power supply load tester you can see if it passes with a load on it.
