Have you noticed that Intel's latest and greatest aren't smoking the previous generation? The 8 core does well where all the cores can be unleashed, but the 5930 doesn't fare well against the 4930 or even (Passmark) it's less costly sibling, the 5820. If you can settle for 28 channels vice 40 PCIE, the cheaper chip may be the sleeper of the bunch.

While they might not perform up to par they are great overclockers as that is what they were designed for. They also have 8 great cores so that would help for those who do 3D modeling and Editing as there are more cores to go by. Also the new gen consoles run on 8 core processors @1.8 ghz to handle their games, so a 8 core Haswell-E chip running @around 3.0 is just fine and will do well in a gaming rig(paired with a card of course).
