Hi,
My PC is currently wired to my router with an ethenet cable. I seem to get some lag issues when my family use's wifi intensive program's whilst I'm gaming. If I was to change the network from 5ghz to 2.4ghz would that decrease my lag?

Not likely. You would only get a lag if the wireless users were using too much of your internet connection and it does not matter which they use. Actually which ever works WORSE for them cause them to use less of the internet connection.

There could be some strange issue if you transfer huge amounts of data between wireless machines that you could exceed cpu limits due to encryption overhead but it is highly unlikely. This would only occur if for example you were streaming multiple uncompressed blueray streams to multiple devices all within your house.

The 5ghz and 2.4 are for wireless, and has nothing to do with wired.

You already found the problem, too many users.

Actually, what works 'worse' for the WiFi people may also cause the wired connection to be worse.
Multiple resends back and forth to the router due to a poor connection may overwhelm the tiny brain in there.

Overall, I'd just put it down to too much traffic overall.

AFAIK the 5ghz to 2.4ghz will only solve conflicts with your neighbors Wi Fi.
