Just bought an SSD drive for a frsh install of windows. Try as I might i cannot get it to appear in either the bios or via disk managment.
Running windows 7 with a Asus P8H77-V LE motherboard.

Can you try another SATA cable/port? If it's not detected in BIOS, it definitely sounds like something is not connected properly, or the SSD may be DOA.
Have tried all that, a friend of mine said I may need a driver to enable the port for sata 3? Problem is I have no idea what that means or where to obtain such a thing.. any ideas?
