Hello, i m trying to find out a good sound card and i' m between those 2 cards:
(1)Asus Xonar DX 24-bit 192 KHz Sound Card
(2)Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z 30SB150200000 OEM 24-bit 192 KHz Sound Card

The problem is that the (1) sound card has 7.1 channels and the (2) has 5.1.
My question is that if i buy speakers (Corsair Gaming Audio Series SP2500 High-Power 2.1PCSpeaker System) which are 5.1. So if i finally buy the (1) sound hard is there going to be any problems because it has 7.1 channels? Which will be better?

P.S.:Feel free to suggest me something (speakers and sound card) :bounce:

the 7.1 sound card will support 5.1 as well.

both the xonar dx (or dgx) and creative z are good soundcards and will have similar quality levels.

if you ever plan on connecting studio grade headphones directly to the soundcard without using any sort of external amplifier then the z has a better headphone amp and can power better headphones to higher volumes. if you used an amplifier though it doesnt much matter. the two also have different types of virtual surround processing. asus uses dolby headphone while creative uses SBX. you can find comparisions on youtube between them. if you dont use virtual surround then it doesnt much matter.

I sometimes envy those who don't understand the complex world of audio. I could buy a very nice car for what my Hi-fi has cost me over the years.
Your best solution is to find the speakers that sound the way you want your world to sound and buy them. Ignore the specs as they are often exaggerated to look impressive but convince the salesman to plug them in and turn it up.
Then get the sound card that is the most compatible with your OS and games. All sound cards sound much the same untill you start looking at the high-end studio cards and their specs have even more meaningless numbers.

Remember bigger is best! Iron Maiden never used an 8" sub they used 21" subs and lots of them :)

1, What do you like more? DX for music, Z for games.
2, Doesn't matter. The 7.1 or 5.1 is the number of outputs the card has. You can choose how many it will use. Also, your speakers are 2.1.

as for suggestions>
sound card> SB Titanium HD (if you can find it at a good price - they may be discontinued, but one can get a decent deal online)
for speakers> stay away from anything high-power, gam1ng, super and mega-what-so-ever monikers. If you are on a tight budget and need 2.1 audio - Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 are nice. If you want to save space with only 2 speakers - M-Audio AV40. You can add and sub later (if you feel like that)

Most probably i will use it for gaming. So i will go for the Z as i read some articles that are pointing out z does better on games.
Now for the speakers those that u told me are good.
But i m between 3 just tell me which one u belive is the best (if u can also explain me abit would appreciate it)
1)Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 THX Certified Speakers --> your suggest
2)Logitech 2.1 Speaker System Z623 --> someone suggested me
3)Corsair CA-SP211UK SP2500 Gaming 2.1 Speaker System --> My first choice

with the Z you wouldnt need a seperate headphone amplifier as it can handle most headphones fine.

also of note: if you used an external usb or optical input headphone amplifier you likely would not be able to take advantage of virtual surround. if you used the line out jack on your soundcard and if the amp has 3.5mm or rca inputs then you would.

the klipsch promedia set suffers from having the subwoofer poorly matched to the satelites. in other words, it completely overpowers them even at minimum levels.

the m-audio speakers are powered which means they do not need an amplifier.

home theater speakers are certainly going to have the best sound you can get but may be abit pricey. not sure what your budget is. a pair of bookshelf speakers and an amplifier or receiver will get you good sound and likely available for a $150-200 budget. a subwoofer would be more but with larger bookshelves you dont always need a subwoofer.

also of note the corsair speaker system you originally mentioned is 2.1 not 5.1.
