im on a very tight budget and i am just upgrading cpu for music production (nothing professional) and i was thinking about buying i5-4690, but i was googleing (i dont think that is a word :) ) and i read that broadwell is coming out in October and my questions are:

1) Is broadwell gonna be much better than DC?

2)is it gonna cost more than DC now or is DC gonna drop in price?

i have g620 2nd gen so u understand why i need a better cpu asap =)

thanks in advance

Intel has not dropped prices on its discontinued chips in years so you may as well forget any hope of price drops on DC when Broadwell comes out.

As far as Broadwell is concerned, the overclockable desktop variant is not going to be available until late-2015 and by then, Skylake will be just about to launch as well unless Intel delays it. AFAIK, Broadwell is only launching in embedded/all-in-one flavors this year, about three quarters late, so if you want a desktop Broadwell, you will have to wait until some point next year.

Unless you want to delay your purchase by 6+ month, Devil Canyon is your best option in the near-future. In 10-12 months from now, you would get to pick between Broadwell and Skylake.

I have the 4690 and it's great. Not much better than the 4670, but it's a little faster and runs on the 9 series chip set. It will tear through any music production you can throw at it. Just remember, it's a non k version, so no overclocking. (Well, not easily anyway.)
