Hey everyone,

Like the title says, I'm having an issue with booting my computer.

Here's the background info:

CPU: i7-2600k @ 3.4Ghz
Mobo: MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3)
Mem: 8GB 1600 Corsair Vengeance
HD1: 250GB Samsung 840
HD2: 1TB 7200 Samsung Spinpoint F3
GPU: GeForce GTX 970 4GB
PSU: 750W PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk II

Yesterday I replaced my GPU with a new MSI GTX 970, which is when the problem started happening. Basically, my computer still works fine, even the new GPU is fine once I get past the boot process. However, this process now takes 2-3 minutes instead of 20 seconds. Right after I power on, it hangs on what I'm assuming is POST. All I can see is a hyphen in the top left corner and "B2" in the bottom right corner. This is the screen it stays on for the majority of the 2-3 minutes then it does this weird glitch out screen (with a bunch of strong neon colors like you see in horror movies when the TV broadcast goes out), and then immediately I see the Windows 8.1 logo and my computer works from that point on.

I'm probably going to try to get a replacement battery for my motherboard later on today, but my friend says that it "shouldn't" be a battery problem because my clock still works.

To recap, the only thing I've really changed is install a new GPU. If anyone has any other advice, help is greatly appreciated!

Edward

I was experiencing similar issues with my setup. I upgraded GPU to R9 280x and it solved the issue (I was upgrading for upgrade purposes rather than to fix the issue, but the upgrade happened to fix it).

Could be a hardware conflict, firmware issue or just a bad GPU... I say try to get a new GPU (warranty exchange/RMA). If that doesn't work, then switch to AMD chipset if it bothers you (although you may need a 290 to get similar performance as the 970).

So I replaced the mobo battery and it still didn't fix the problem, and then I tried booting without the new GPU installed and it fixed the problem.

So now I know that the problem is for sure the new GPU, but I'm wondering if this is a software issue that can be fixed with an update or if I should get a new card.
