My computer is underperforming!

Why is my computer so bad compared to others?

I got my computer a year ago now and in that short time period I had to take my computer to the tech store to wait a week to get it fixed, AND had to do a system restore twice.

And yet my computer is still so bad! It makes me both sad (I actually cried sometimes about how slow it was) and angry about how I paid £1000 for something this rubbish and unreliable! Here's my specs.

Processor: AMD A-10-5750M APU with Radeon(tm) HD graphics (4CPUs), ~2.5GHz
8192MB of RAM

OS: Windows 8 64-bit (6.2, Build 9200)

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 8650G + 7670M Dual Graphics

DAC Type: Internal DAC(400MHz)

Hard Drive Space: 1TB (no SSD), 901GB usable, 819GB free.

Please help!

(If I didn't post something about my computer I should've, please let me know)

1000£ for that? I guess it's a prebuilt machine from a company like Dell, iBuyPower etc, they always overcharge (premium) for what they sell, you have a weak CPU and a weak video card, obviously your pc is gonna be slow for gaming, for overall usage however it should do just fine, though you could've built yourself the same pc with only 350£.

If you feel like it's too slow for overall usage then something is clearly wrong, could be the HDD but we'll need a better, more detailed explanation about the problem(s) you're experiencing.

I bought the computer for at Currys PC World at a sale price of £600 at the time, but normally it would've been £1000.

It looked so good at the time...

Never trust a store with "World" in the name.

If you can, return the computer.

It's a very popular electronics chain in England. I think Currys did a merger with PC World (another popular English electronics chain) but I cant be sure.

Looks pretty similar to our BestBuy stores. They sell cheap crap at inflated prices. I couldn't say for sure obviously, but it seems that's the case.

How slow is slow? if you trying to play latest games on highest settings.. you going to seriously struggle..
But it should boot in a reasonable time.. and generally be OK...(not so bad to warrant crying about it).
So how bad is it?
Cheers

30 FPS on Battlefield 3 (on medium). Sims 4 can dip to 10 FPS at any time even when not much is on screen on medium settings.

It's kinda bad, as you could tell.

This is apparently a laptop and not a desktop computer, BTW as it is a mobile processor.

I would do a "Windows Refresh" in Windows 8.1 (make sure that you back up any files to another drive, be it USB or DVD).

Also, after Windows does the Refresh, make sure that all updates are installed (will take a good few hours with all the updates and Update 1 and 2). You should then be at about 6.3 9600

Somewhere in your menu items you should seem some sort of application/program to make a System image DVD set. It is usually labeled something like HP, Dell, or Lenovo (whatever your brand of computer/laptop) backup disks.
Use that program to make the back up set disks that will create a DVD image restore set of disks. Normally you won't need those, as you can do a Refresh or Reset without the DVD, but sometimes things go wrong, and the DVD can put back the operating system onto the hard drive if need be. Without them, you might be forced to buy another Windows license from Microsoft. So make them!!!

I only did a system restore 9 days ago... :(

Also, I might try that update, but I kinda doubt it will improve my computer speed tenfold, so more tips and suggestions are welcome.

A "Windows 8 Restore" is TOTALLY different than a "Windows 8 Refresh"
Windows 8 Restore takes your O/S back to a time that you pick when you think it worked okay.
Windows 8 Refresh reinstalls your Windows 8 operating system and the Windows Store Apps and also keeps your files that you saved. (it does not reinstall any Desktop Apps that you had installed)

Also, i'm thinking that you should probably find a way to turn off the GPU that is on the CPU. It could be switching back and forth from the GPU on the CPU and to the other graphics card, AMD Radeon HD 8650G

Are you sure? you went to PC Settings and then "Recovery Options" and then selected 'Refresh your computer"?

Making the DVD set from your manufacturer will ensure that you won't have to buy another copy of Windows 8 for that laptop again, so it won't help your laggy laptop but it will potentially save you money and headaches later on.
