Good day,

I am currently in the process of upgrading my gtx 650 2gb SC gpu to either a GTX 780 Ti or GTX 980. I would like to get some feedback if this is a wise enough to purchase either one of these gpus for the purpose of gaming, Please note that my monitor only has a refresh rate of 60Hz and max resolution of 1080p.

Given these conditions do you think its wise enough to get these cards? I am thinking it would not make much sense having a card capable of running 4K resolution but not actually utilizing that spec. Any other recommendation will be appreciated.

Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

Solution
The 980 is stronger than the 780 Ti,period.
It is better in pretty much any game:

Crysis 3:

BF4:

As you can see,it beats it everywhere, except in Crysis 3 at 1440p,while being much more power efficient, therefore staying cooler and generating less noise. And it has higher potential for OCing.
I don't see how one can pick a 780 Ti or R9 290X now that the 980 has been launched.

well if your monitor is a 60 hz monitor
then it doesnt even make sense to go for the 780 forget about 980
even the 780 is overkill for a 60hz monitor
go for a 770 instead
you can also get a great deal on it at this time

Thanks all for your quick responses. Appreciate it alot JackNaylorPE, LukaBoki, Bhavneet Pannu, i made my final decision and i will go with the gtx 980.

@ beni_rohit i am guessing its better to get a 4k monitor with a refresh rate of at least 80Hz then. Can you or anyone recommend a monitor that will work well with the gtx 980?

Thanks much.

Frankly, I'd rather have 144 Hz than 4k..... Im in Linus' camp on this "4k is dead to me"..... While he likes the LG 34UM95 34" UltraWide Widescreen 21:9 Monitor ($1300) .... I like the Swift

If ya look on newegg at the monitors that get the most reviews, the reviews are not all that glowing

Which monitor depends on ya budget

The RoG Swift is the be all and end all of gaming monitors but it's $800.

The Asus 144 Hz VG248QEis probably the most commonly chosen gaming monitor at 1920 x 1080

Hey JackNaylorPE, that LG 34UM95 34" UltraWide Widescreen, is one sick monitor bro, this is probably the best monitor i ever came across in my entire life. I am liking this monitor, the only downfall is its price lol.

All the other monitors you mentioned are great as well, i will review all and hopefully choose one from any of those recommended. Thanks again for your help bro.
