Hey guys.

My dilemma is this. I have about 350$ to spend to upgrade my current rig. I'm a gamer and thats the main mission.

My current rig is this,

GIGABYTE AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD FX-8320 OC'ed to 4.0Ghz
8GB DDR3 1600Mhz Gskill Ram
R9 270x GPU
SSD

My thoughts are to get rid of the AMD CPU, and upgrading to Intel. Specifically this....

ASRock Z97 Extreme3

Intel Core i5-4690K

Thats about $350.
The other option would be to upgrade my GPU.

GeForce GTX 770 2GB

GTX 780 is on sale too.

Which would give me the best bang for my buck/be most relevant the longest? Any and all suggestions are welcomed.

In my opinion, your best option would be to save your money. None of the suggested upgrades would be worth the $350 cost.

you could upgrade to a gtx-970 for about $350 which would give approximately gtx780 performance with a lower cost, power draw and thermal output. that would be a notable upgrade to the 270x but its not going to double your performance or anything.

an upgrade to an i5-4690k and z97 might improve framerates a bit in games which were cpu limited and system speed might improve as well but dont expect huge gains.

overall a gpu upgrade will likely give you more than a cpu upgrade.

wolfshadw has a point though. your system is already solidly into the mid-tier performance levels and upgrading from that doesnt make as much budgetary sense since you would be losing money for not much gain. that is not to say DONT DO IT which of course you can do and certainly you can reap some rewards from it but factoring in the loss of money from your current card even if you sold it and the price of the new card performance isnt going to equate out.

if you didnt care and wanted an upgade then i'd go with gpu for now and upgrade cpu later.
