I have some money saved up and would like to upgrade my desktop. I need to figure out what's slowing it down the most, so I can buy the right upgrade.

I dont play many games that require a good graphics card or CPU. Some examples are Portal 2, Civilization 5 and Beyond Earth

Specs:
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core 3.80GHz
RAM: 8 GB
Graphics: GeForce GT 610
Software: Windows 8

Please tell me if you need any more information. Thank your for your help!

I'd say you should spend about 50$ On a PSU and 150 on a GPU.. Do you know how to swap psu's and hook it all back up properly or anyone who does?

Its actually pretty simple, I mean all you would have to do is mark down which connector goes where.. Obviously the 24 pin is the big one that plugs into the mother board. then you have the 4 or 8 pin above the CPU socket. then the ones that go into the GPU and Sata connecters and other misc stuff... But yeah i can give you a link on a decent PSU and GPU for 200. then tutorials on how to install both if youd like

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

GPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

If you can cover shipping these would be your best bets... the 265 is basically a rebadged and overclocked HD 7850

And the EVGA is better than the Corsair CX500.. has more amps on the 12v rail

He could actually get away with just getting a GTX 750 Ti and not need to switch the PSU.

I was looking into that as well, would you recommend the 750?

Yeah the 750TI wouldn't require a new PSU but they would be WAY better off with a new psu that's ATLEAST 80+ Certified. and the 265 is probably better than the 750Ti anyway.. I wouldn't know for sure, have not compared them.

Edit: just did benchmarks, 265 is the obvious better card of the 2 anyway. I would rather not risk the whole system using that PSU anyway.

I linked a gtx 750 Ti, its a really good card... it will be about 10% slower than the 265 but it only uses 65w of power, also it costs $130.

Sure if you don't care about the cost of running the 2 cards or the cost of the new PSU.

Im sure the OP wants the best for there system, thats what im giving them, A reliable PSU and better GPU versus a non reliable generic non 80+ psu with the lesser GPU.

Oh and btw.. The 265 comes with 2 free games of your choice.

Woah, ill look into both.
Im was thinking about the 750 Ti so i dont need to buy a new PSU but the 265 DOES look better.
I just have never really switched out a PSU and a little nervous about hurting something.

One last thing, I have been looks reviews for 265 (looks great for me) but everyone has a 6300 processor, not my 4300. Should I upgrade this too?

the 4300 will suffice unless you do heavy video making and photoshop type stuff.. then the more cores will help.. but if its just gaming then no dont worry about it

it would have lesser performance than the 265 as its pretty much just a 7790.. It depends on you and the money you have.. If you don't care and have the money get the 265 and the psu.. as for the 260X.. i think honestly you would need a new PSU with any of these cards.. Im just trying to look out for you ya know? If you were to put in a new gpu or something who knows if the PSU would be up to it.. Don't want you to kill your whole system is all.
