Do I have a motherboard problem?? Help please

Hi there, in my new build I've been having this problem where sometimes the computer will not boot and the BIOS does not beep. However other times it will be fine. I've noticed that this happens when I switch off the power on the mains (obviously I turn the actual computer off first). I also noticed that the HDD light does not come on.

I am reluctant to return the motherboard as it will take ages to get a refund or a replacement, and I really must be able to use my computer. Would resitting the CMOS battery change anything? Could anyone advise me as to what the problem could be? Other than this, everything works perfectly.

Specs:

AMD FX-6300
TX3 EVO Cooler
R7 260X Sapphire edition
320GB Samsung Spinpoint F1
G-Skill Ares 8GB RAM @1866MHZ
Biostar A960D+ Motherboard

Thank you so much in advance!

After you cut the power supply to the PC or turn off the PSU at the rocker switch, you may have to press and hold the front power button for 15 seconds (with mains supply still off) to purge the residual power from the PSU circuits.

Then restore the power at mains socket, push the front power button and it should start up successfully.

To avoid having to go that process, leave the mains supply switched on. It is neither normal nor necessary to switch off the mains supply to your PC. Just shutting down your PC is sufficient.

Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely start using your advice! Could this problem be at all related to my RAM? As Amazon said they would give me a replacement if I need. Thanks again :)

what power supply do you have? this sounds like a powersupply problem or possibly a motherboard problem.

I lean to powersupply also though the mobo is a strong possible

Thanks, so the RAM would not cause such an issue?

The DRAM is a possible, try each sick individually, but also the CX PSU is their entry level and has weak caps, and the mobo (BioStar isn't all that good a mobo and they can be prone to failures

Hmm thanks very much for all your help, I really do appreciate it! I might return my RAM for a replacement in the mean time just to ensure its not the RAM.

Hey again. Leaving the power on seems to have fixed the problem of it not posting sometimes. However just this morning it turned on by itself!?!? And the fan seemed to go really loud for a second then go back to normal. Is this any clue to the problem??? Thanks.

Could be symptomatic of marginal power distribution, might see if a different PSU does better, or something starved for power at initial start up (possible DRAM stick going bad) or might be something entirely different, is anything OCed

Thanks for the reply. I'll try replacing the PSU and the RAM. Appreciate all the help!
