Hello everyone

I've been testing my new R9 280 with Bioshock Infinite, Saint's Row,playing it a highest settings. I never get a 60 fps stuck, the fps sometimes go to 50/40 then goes to 60 fps at stays for some times. Is it normal? I'm a little paranoid.

Specs:

CPU - I5 4430S 2.7Ghz
RAM - 10GB
GPU - R9 280
PSU - XFX 750w

More about : normal game stuck fps 280

I'm assuming this is with a 1080p monitor? If so, those are normal FPS for those specs. You could try lowering some of the more demanding settings, like Anti-Aliasing. You could also try overclocking your GPU a little bit (Google that series for a guide).

Yes it is with a 1080p monitor, I never put Anti-Aliasing on, It's always off. The R9 280 is not a old card too, but I know it's not the best available too. So is it normal right?

Yup, that seems about right. It may be the CPU even holding you back, a little, in some instances (when a lot is going on on-screen at once.)

I would download MSI Afterburner for 2 reasons:

1. Let it run while you game, and check the temp and core-speed graphs to be sure your GPU temps aren't rising too high, which can cause the card to throttle (or slow down) to cool off.

2. If your temps are ok, try to overclock the GPU 10-20% and see if that gets you to 60FPS. Google "R9 Overclocking Guide" for more info.

Off-topic but please please please people STOP ruining your Dual channel by adding strange and incompatible amounts of RAM in your system.

I'm guessing you had a 2GB RAM and later on bought a 8GB stick (or even 2 x 4GB) and decided to stick them all in. For RAM to work in Dual channel you need a matched pair of the same RAM like 2 x 2 GB, or 2x 4 GB etc. etc.

8GB RAM is more than enough for gaming and the extra 2 GB you put in there won't benefit you at all.

I had 6 GB I bought an HyperX 4Gb, If I do dual channel with the 4 gb stick and the HyperX one will work better? I know mixing brands is not good, but I can't buy a new one now.

Rapajez, The graphic card is at full usage like everyone, 65ºC at full settings in Bioshock. Core clock at 1000, good to go?

Dual channel require 2 identical sticks of RAM. Even RAM with the same model number may not be compatible, which is why they sell "dual channel" kits.

In your case, I wouldn't worry about it. If you ever upgrade to say 16GB, get a dual-channel 2x8 kit. Otherwise, you're only missing a little performance, from a gaming standpoint.

Yeah, that sounds like it's at a good temperature. I'm assuming that's after it's been running for a while, not just for a few seconds?

If so, I'd read up on overclocking your GPU next, and see if you can squeeze a little more out of that R9 280.

Running for a while yea, I don't know if I should get constact 60 fps with this graphic card, I'm a little paranoid, the graphic card is in a good shape?

Systems with higher specs experience FPS drops in certain circumstances. If you read articles with GPU reviews you can see some graphs showing the FPS ups and downs during a given benchmark so don't worry about it :)

Yup, it's fine for your system. Definitely look into overclocking the R9 280, as that could get you just over the 60FPS hump. If you can slide a bar and run a looping test, you're qualified. :)

Should I test the GPU with 3DMark11 Demo Edition, to be sure?

You can, if you create an account, they'll give you a nice chart that compares your rig to similar rigs. I don't think it takes OC'ing into account (someone with an OC'd R9 280 will score higher than someone with a stock R9 280).

If you just want a solid benchmark that will push your GPU, check out Furmark instead.
