Hello,
So I used "Partition Wizard" to create a third local disk; I have C: (primary) D: (logical drive) and F: (logical drive).
F: is the new one. I plan to install Windows7 on F: and keep WindowsXp on C: to be able to dual-boot.
Do I need to convert F: from logical drive to primary partition ( so I get 2 primary + 1 logical; D: ) before I install Win7 on it? There's an option to convert to primary in the partition wizard program.
Please help me not make a mistake.

Hi Sir,I am Bharath from India.I think I can help you out here.Actually you don't need to do Anything.Format F: and Restart PC,While Restarting,Place in Windows 7 CD and select it to boot first. It will go into Installation and the Trick here is,Just select Drive F: and Tap Install. After the Whole process is complete,Windows 7 Bootloader will come first as It is a Newer Version,Thereby Allowing you to Dual Boot them. This happens only because Windows 7 Detects if Older Version of Windows are Installed so the Windows 7 Bootloader will come first with an Option "Earlier Version of Windows" and That thing is Windows XP.Please do Inform me the results. If it works,Don't forget to select mine as the Best Answer.Thank you

Actually, I have a related question. I have 2 hard drives on my new build, my first one and I'm proud that it's up and running well. I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro and have found some older software that won't even install ... some that worked fine on Win 7. Can I create a bootable flash drive with Windows XP and service pack on it and install XP on my 2nd hard drive? Microsoft says you have to install the older version first, but I don't want to have to re-install 8.1. So I'm hoping that booting directly to the Win XP installation would by-pass Win 8.1 and not cause any conflict. Am I right? I sure don't want to mess up my system!
Second part of the question is how do I re-format the 2nd hard drive? Right now, Windows 8.1 is recognizing it as part of my system, so I assume it would need to be clean. Any advice would be appreciated.

1. You're right.
2. The Windows installation will do that for you. Just make sure you select the correct drive in which you want to install another Windows.

Everything else I've seen indicates that this will not work ... maybe with some other specific steps. Such as this: https://neosmart.net/wiki/easybcd/dual-boot/windows-xp/.... Have you tried doing what I suggested ... just booting in to install an earlier version to a clean drive? What about drivers? If you have more info I'd really appreciate it, otherwise it makes me nervous. Thanks.
