I have and Asrock AD2550R/U3S3. I'm happy with the board so far, but the onboard video card has terrible performance, as there really are no drivers available for linux (GMA3600). The main function of this box is going to be a low powered NAS/media server.

I won't be using the monitor hardly at all, but I was thinking of finding a really cheap gfx card that Linux does support so that the CPU isn't being diverted for any graphics needs. There seems to be a lot of cheap Dell Radeon and nvidias (64-256 mb) for under 10 bucks.

Anyone have any experience with a no frills video card that works with Linux?
Thanks!

Overall, I had the best luck with Nvidia cards working with Linux. Far as what to get, anything really, but the older cards generally work better than a newer one.

I'm looking to spend as little as possible, seeing as I really won't need it very often. I just don't want the CPU being taxed on anything other than shuffling media and data. If one of the ones off eBay for $10 would work, I'd be pretty happy.

Good to know. By any chance do you know of any place where I can check to see if there is a driver for my current system (Linux Mint 17)?

Thanks!

That is more then enough, and it will run smoothly on Mint.
