The 5930k is a little faster and supports more PCI-E lanes for multiple GPUs. The choice of CPU depends on how many PCI-e devices you plan to add.

Not really worth the extra in my opinion. Slightly higher default clock but they both can be overclocked. Really only matters if you want 4 way SLI instead of just 3 way.

i7 5000 series is for workstations (server, etc..) it is OVERKILL for gaming. Unless you will play game while doing CATIA V6 (which is a stupid thing to do).

For gaming and video editing get the i7 4970k.

He already bought an X99 motherboard and the i7 5920k isn't that much more expensive than the 4790k

I had a i7 4790 but i am a little bit addicted with tecnology and so i sell everything and bought a x99 motherboard and so i need to choose the cpu
The 4790k was a great processor but now i have to move on..
So your opinions will be great

Go with the i7-5820K http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MMLXIKY. The 5930K will not benefit you much more in gaming and isn't worth the near $200 price hike for gaming alone.

Now if you plan to use it as a workstation or do rendering/editing work then you may find use for it. For gaming, it's not worth getting.

I'd go with the I7 5960x.
Going from an I7 4790k to an I7 5820k/5930k is more of a downgrade for gaming and not a big upgrade for productivity. Going to the 5960x is a downgrade for gaming, too, but a very noticeable upgrade for productivity.

Well I don't think it is worth double the price of the processors he was considering, a list which never included that processor.

Well I don't think it makes any sense going from an i7 4790k to an i7 5820k.
