okay, so I have all of my speakers hooked up correctly to my Denon AVR-2400 and all speakers are configured correctly to be in 5.1 surround sound. All test sounds play in the correct speakers and everything works, however when I play games or anything else I get front left and right sound; no center, sub, rear left or right. I set up the realtek driver to speaker fill but it's not filling them with anything.

I am pretty stumped here, any solutions?

how are you plugged into the receiver? I would go HDMI from the Video Card to the Receiver, then from the Receiver to my monitor/TV and then switch HDMI to the audio.

I would go HDMI if I could, but the receiver is too old for that, so I have to use 3.5 to RCA.

So surround sound works fine, but i need to figure out how to force all the other speakers to play something when I'm not listening to something in 5.1.

Look on the amp, most have an all-speaker or simulated surround mode, but yours may be old and it's hard to find an english manual for that receiver for me to look.

I might have to locate the remote, maybe it will have more options. but all the buttons on the amp change the source. It's a pretty bad design flaw that doesn't make sense. Why on earth would you give me all of these sound enhancements for 2 speaker stereo but not for 5.1 surround sound. if I want sound to come out of the speakers I have to be in 6CH EXT. IN, anything else will give me silence.

sometimes the simple solution is right in front of your face.
Since a lot of audio is in 2 channels (I guess) I grabbed a headphone splitter and an RCA to 3.5mm jack adapter and plugged the splitter into the port that plays the sound for front L & R so now I can switch to real surround sound when I can but still use all my speakers when audio isn't in 5.1.

Diagram for clarification:

Receiver 5.1 ports........<.........5.1 RCA cable

Reciever Stereo ports...<....Stereo RCA cable
