Are you buying a monitor: No

Following the stickied "how to ask for advice"

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg.com, Amazon.com, I am willing to purchase from others if they offer better prices

Location: Central New Jersey, USA

Parts Preferences: I have no strong brand loyalties, but prefer the AMD FX-8350 simply due to its cost/performance efficiency

Overclocking: Maybe.

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe. I would like to have the option to SLI or Crossfire in the future as the pc needs upgrading, but depending on the timing it may be better to just buy a better single card.

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Using current setup, I have been unable to play games such as World of Tanks even at the lowest settings and even older games like Borderlands II have trouble running properly.

Additional Comments: World of Tanks, War Thunder, League of Legends, Dungeon Defenders, Borderlands II, etc.

I left out parts such as the case and the RAM (8gb of DDR3-1600) because I will be purchasing them over the next month according to what deals I can find. I'm considering the 280x because of the good deal(239.99$). Unfortunately this deal only lasts until tomorrow, the 24th. If no one can give me any positive feedback on this card over other options in the next day, I'll either have to miss out on the deal or choose a different card. With the 280x, I may be able to get another and crossfire in the next 2 years, but I'm not sure if the crossfire 280x would be comparable to simply upgrading to a single better card. The new GTX 970 is at the top of my price range. I haven't been able to find good comparisons of the two cards, but it looks as though for the price the 970 might be a better deal. In either case, will the 970 chip set on the cheaper mobo be a problem if I'm not planning to significantly overclock, if I overclock at all? The UD3 has the 990 chipset, but I'm not sure of the actual performance difference. I'm most likely going with the Antec 750w because it has a decent price and reliability, and it also offers enough wattage to possibly Crossfire in the future. It would be great to get some suggestions on the GPU because I'm really not sure on the true performance difference the 90$ between the two will make, or if there is a better option than either out there. Same with the mobo. Is there any cheaper place to purchase Windows 7?

Any modern mobo will support either card.

if you plan to get the 8320 and oc it's a good choice but you will want a better motherboard and a better cpu cooler, that drives the cost up as much as just buying the faster binned product, BUT and this is a big but, if you really want to learn about your computer hardware and the way it works in detail, this is a really good choice. In core 2 days this is how I learned to overclock. It's really lots of fun if you like puttering. You also gain a lot of additional features with the better motherboard, what the additional features are will vary from board to board. Though not needed for any reason it is an option and it is fun and learning packaged into one.

Thanks for the help so far, I'll definitely see if I can find similarly priced higher speed ram. From what you said spent shells the cheaper mobo will probably be sufficient for the 280x, but if I spring for the gtx 970 will it be a problem? It seems as though the two gpus are in different leagues and I should just shell out the extra for the 970. I've also seen some other threads where people are recommending an overclocked fx 8320 over the 8350 but it's only about 30 cheaper. Thanks.
