Hi, just this morning my CPU began overheating when I played ArcheAge. I have multithreading turned OFF and have switched to DX 9 in the game settings. While watching YouTube videos and browsing my temperatures were at 30-45 degrees celcius. After launching ArcheAge the temperature spiked to 65 degrees celcius and went from 65 degrees celcius to 90 degrees celcius where it eventually shut down. I have been able to play games for the past year without any temperature issues. All of my fans seem to be functioning as well. I have 4 Fans (2 front, 1 back and Liquid Cooling on top). My front, back, side and top fan filters are also clean of dust.

My specs are:
AMD FX-8150 3.6GHz 8 cores (Factory Overclocked)
ATI Radeon 7950 3GB Gaming edition graphics
AMD990x + SB950 motherboard chipset.
Coolermaster Storm Trooper Gamer Chassis with 850w Modular PSU

You may have to change the settings on the Control Panel > Power Options > Processor Power Management... You can also change the BIOS Hardware thermal Control settings.

See pages 27 through 29 in this Gigabyte motherboard manual for the thermal control settings, it's probably not your motherboard but you can get an idea of what you can configure in the BIOS.

Set the CPU fan to constant speed and manage the CPU power management in Control Panel Power Options to help it run cooler...

If the problem persists, the issue may depend on what thermal grease your CPU has on, and you can try a different brand grease with higher thermal conductivity... For example: cheap thermal pastes are supposed to be from under 1 up to 4/5... while...

If the problem persists, the issue may depend on what thermal grease your CPU has on, and you can try a different brand grease with higher thermal conductivity... For example: cheap thermal pastes are supposed to be from under 1 up to 4/5... while Artic Silver is around 9 and there are better brands that can go up to 16. So, I'm sure you can improve CPU cooling with a better thermal grease. Click the links for detailed info on Thermal Grease Thermal Conductivity.
