Judging by the question, you must already know that I currently use one of the Intel HD Graphics.. thingies (4000 to be precise). Before I finally get rid of that monstrosity plaguing my computer, I need to know - what is it exactly?

Is it a separate card like an nVidia GTX or AMD R9? I've heard it runs with the GPU or something like that, therefore I have no solid base on what it is exactly. Any answers or explanations would be highly appreciated.

Kudos!

The Intel HD4000 Graphics you have is an integrated graphic chipset. If you have another graphics solution (an AMD or NVidia graphics card), you can disable it, but you cannot remove it.

Built in to the intel processor .

If you have no graphics card you can plug the monitor in to [ most] motherboards

If you install a graphics card that automatically disables the intel graphics , and you plug the monitor into the graphics card

Hello... It can do 1080P which is great for using as a second or third monitor, at home and at work, for web pages, texts, broadcasts, and other non-3D apps, all from the inside of your CPU... Not all intel CPU's have this featured enabled in them... it is also called IGT in your BIO's if you want to dis-able or enable it.
It will use/allocate your Ram Memory for it needs, and you have options to increase or decrease the amount, in youir BIO's.
