Hey everyone!

I'm starting to poke around into seeing what type of laptop I wanna get next year as laptop shopping should be the most fun part of college shopping, so why not start early!

Now I could be like everyone else and pickup a mac, but I'd rather spend my money more wisely, and I prefer windows much more than any Apple software.

I know how to build a desktop computer inside and out, but laptops is a whole new world for me. I pretty much wanna find a laptop that runs WIN 7 (preferably 7 over 8.1) can game at a decent level, and can run office (basically all laptops but whatever) I wanna be at around $1200 and under, which is more than enough I believe.

I don't even know if building a laptop is such a thing, but I'm up for anything. Share your experiences and best sites to get laptops with me. Any information is useful!

Thanks!

You got to Halloween ... after that Windows 7 is no more .... preinstalled anyway.

Had three kids go to "Kolludge"

Son No. 1. Took a Windows lappie ($2100) lasted 2.5 year of heavy use ... gaming, movies (no TV), flying (he studied to be a pilot)
Son No. 2. Took his PC and bought a MacBook .... 5.5 years later... Mac still chugging
Son No. 3 - Hasn't decided

I have had about a dozen laptops custom built. Remember Alienware ? Well before Dell bought them and quality went south, Alienware was simply a Clevo laptop with some "case modding". FalconNorthwest, VoddoPC, Widow PC all those fancy boutique laptops are / were Clevo designs. You can however go direct to a distributor and have one custom built you your needs.

CLEVO is a large Taiwanese computer company specializing in laptops. While the Clevo brand name is perhaps not widely known, their products are re-branded and sold by known boutique brand OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers)… notably Sager, VoodooPC, Falcon Northwest, Eurocom, etc. They are also considered (by whoever knows about notebooks) to design and manufacturer the best of the best notebooks in terms of superior build quality and innovative designs.
