PC won't boot or power certain components

Hardware:
Asus M5A97 LE R 2.0 mono
XFX R7870 Radeon HD gfx
Corsair CX750M PSU
AMD FX 8350 CPU

The problem started when my computer randomly shut off twice on me. The first time didn't bring up an error menu so I didn't think about it. The second came up with an unexpected shutdown error. Tonight when I walk away from it, the computer is off with only the case power light and mobo light on with the hard drive and fans running, with the exception of the GPU fans. I also could not shut down the computer without turning off the PSU. After following steps of people who had similar problems such as one stick of ram, bare bones booting, and CMOS battery removal, the fans attached to the mobo stopped working while the case fan continued to spin, the light still working and hard drive still running. I was thinking this to be a PSU problem but I'm not entirely sure so I wanted a second opinion.

Edit: took the CPU out of its socket and let the computer run and the mobo fans began to work. I put the CPU in and the same result. It even posted. Then I try to apply the GPU to push my luck, and the problems. Began again. I get paid tomorrow so I'll try a new PSU and update once I've installed it
