hey guys

im new to repairing/replacing parts to computers. Ive been wanting to buy a new graphics card for my pc bcus the 1 in it isnt good enough.

my specs are

intel i5 750 2.66ghz
motherboard gigabyte p55m-ud2
4gb ram
windows 7 64bit
250 ssd
1tb hdd
700w power supply

i was looking at getting evga gtx 660 so i went to frys (electronics store) and asked some guy there in the computer dept if the evga gtx 660 will work on my pc bcus on the requirements its says minimum 450w power supply but below that it said based on i7 3.2ghz so i asked if that was a requirement and he said yes. Ive been googleing and havent seen any info on minimum cpu requirements on choosing a graphics card. Not sure what to get.

installed graphics card is evga geforce 9500gt

your cpu will run a 660 fine, neither parts are particularly new or high end but you can use a 660 fine

Speaking as a sales associate at Fry's.....most of the guys there are idiots.

When it says that its based on i7, that means that minimum power rating is for the GPU + that particular CPU.(And most i7's have a higher TDP than i5's)

That being said, you won't need to upgrade your power supply for any new card you get(Save for like, 2 Titans).
