What FPS Should I Expect?

Hello -

With the help of some terrific members of the Tom's community, I recently put together a pretty serviceable rig - or, so I think.

I'm posting here to get some specific input on what sort of FPS I could hope to expect with it. Below are the relevant pieces of the rig, I think.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Double Dissipation Video Card
Power Supply: SeaSonic 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)
Monitor: Acer S220HQLAbd 21.5" Monitor

I've only got a couple games on hand - since my old laptop didn't play many very well - but playing Smite last night at maximum graphics never dropped below 100fps, even in team fights, easily going up to 150fps while sitting idle in the fountain.

I installed Rift last night, and have been wandering around the newbie area. I found that regardless of my video settings, the game rarely goes above 15fps. Am I missing something here? My computer meets or exceeds the posted specs on the game's website, and yet my fps is.. well, it's pretty lousy even at low settings, and I've never even been in a fight or otherwise flashy situation.

Are there any spots in my build that'd make it difficult to play some of the more popular games on high-ultra?

Thanks,

Mental

no your build should handle it perfectly, something else is wrong here. Starting off with drivers?

Rift is an oddball in that it is an incredibly CPU-intense game due to whatever engine quirks they introduced, but 15 fps is a little ridiculous.

Hello -

I've gone to the AMD website and was tundling around there - turns out my video card driver was quite out of date, despite Windows saying it was just fine when I checked it before posting.

Have since upgraded it and my fps is now a comfortable ~70 on ultra.

Thanks,

Mental
