Ddr 4 is a waste of money if you are gaming. It's server ram not gaming ram but the market has been played in such a way to make you believe DDR4 is the way of the future. Buy ddr3 if you're gaming.

DDR4 is the way of the future... The regular desktop mobos will be on DDR4 next generation.

But I want a six core even though they are overpriced at £300, the X79 i7 hex start at £400! Damn Intel!
Also I just feel that X79 is a dead end.....

Yeah x79 is dead end now. DDR4 is your only choice for X99, you cannot use DDR3.

All I'm saying is if you don't have to buy ddr4 then don't. 2133mhz ddr there is also 2133mhz ddr3. If you have to buy it the. Of course do so but don't put ddr4 as a focus for a build.

Thats stupid.

The only platform that can take DDR4, can ONLY take DDR4, you dont have a choice.

So is this Ram any good?
Pardon my ignorance but are these sticks any good? If so would overclocking them (as long as the RAM and CPU have sufficient cooling) be on par or superior to current DDR3 1600mhz Ram?

Woah rob calm down no need for name calling. I'm saying if a different board or something wAs of interest at some point to the op but opted for ddr4 so chose x99 then it would be a waste moving over just for that. No need to be a d*ck. Also OP if I may ask why are you wanting to build another setup? The system in your sit is MORE than adequate for gaming. Do you render at all or video edit?

The DDR4 2133mhz is better than ddr3 1600mhz so yes it would be superior at stock settings.

Forget DDR4 for now unless you want it bad.
DDR4 with 2133 speed is not a lot faster than DDR3 1600, especially since the latency is high.
The price/performance value is really bad at the moment.
Yeah, in the future DDR3 will be taken over with DDR4..in the future, just not now....perhaps 2-4 years from now.
Yes, X99 accept only DDR4.
Just to be sure...Z87, X79 and Z97 (or anything beside X99) can not accept DDR4...

You have already i5 4670k, upgrading to X99+DDR4 platform does not bring you anything meaningful if you just game on it.

I love my system, however I do eventually want to run 3x R9 290x's in tri-fire for the extra frames. I understand that running more than two cards isn't advised but I shall take my chances. I also want to run a sound card and a RAID controller. The Z97 platform isnt going to have enough PCI lanes for me to do this.
Also I want a six core processor because I run many VM's and attempt to future proof against more threaded gaming of the future.
I also use blender to a degree.

What name calling?

It's not advised because anything past 2 cards in sli has such bad scaling it makes it a waste of money. The performance increase vs the price for a 3rd card to tri sli or tri Fire just isn't worth it

I have done some calculations and it concludes that it will cost me roughly £621 to change to X99 but £437 to change to X79(reuse some DDR3 Ram)

Thoughts?

And I am not going to upgrade platform for like another 5 months.

Depends on what you plan to use the computer for? and what X79 cpu you are considering? I wouldnt bother with a quad core on x79.

You're right. With a 6 core it will cost roughly the same as Haswell-E. I am NOT happy with intel!
I have also posted why I want to "Move up" in previous comments.

If you need the big 6 cores, then you have to pay the price unfortunately!
