How many Hard Drives should I have?

So i've been working on a computer build and I just moved into my storage category for parts to pick. I don't know honestly what setup would be the best for my particular build. While my build will be used for gaming, It will be more used for video editing/rendering on Sony Vegas and Photoshop work as well. My current plan right now is to get a 512GB Samsung 850 Pro SSD for my OS and major programs/projects and for mass storage I figured that two WD Black 4TB 7200 RPM HDDs will be sufficient. I planned on two because I thought that one would be for rendering my Vegas projects to and the other would be for games and other misc storage such as pictures and videos off my video camera etc. Any suggestions on how to optimize my build for my purposes or is this setup good enough?

You can either use redundancy RAIDs( like RAID 1 for example), an external desktop drive or some kind of personal or public cloud storage.

The thing about RAIDs is that they provide either speed, redundancy or both. Though, redundancy is not a real back up of your data. That is why I prefer the external desktop hard drives. It is a separate device which contains your data. You can either drag and drop the important info or use software that continuously/on schedule backs up your data.
I can not really give you any suggestion on the public clouds. There are personal cloud systems though.

You can check out the following devices in case you will need more back up space in the future:

Hi there MrRealitySpeaks,

I think that it is a really good idea having your OS and heavier programs on the SSD. Regarding the HDD part, it all depends on your capacity needs. If you need 8 TB of capacity, then the 2x4TB Blacks are a good choice. Have you considered any back up solution for your projects/videos etc. ?

Cheers,

Well for backup, I do have a 1TB external HD laying about that I can save my more important files and projects to just incase, but other than that I don't really have a backup solution. I didn't think about backup as much since I don't plan on utilizing a raid configuration for the HDDs.

Out of curiosity sake, what other precautions would you take for backing up files? It'll take a while for the HDDs to fill up to the point where it'll be hard to maintain them both, but I'd rather get some info for the future.
