Hi Everyone,

I got a brand new laptop yesterday, I installed Minecraft today and I monitored the FPS and it's always 30-33FPS, never any higher, NEVER. I don't have any power saving mode enabled, and I have all settings to max. Even if I put the settings all to low, it's still the same FPS!

My Computer:
4th Generation i5-4200M 2.5GHz (3.1GHz Turbo)
Intel HD Graphics 4600
4GB Ram

Any help would be appreciated! :)

From what I've heard, using more ram can actually lower your performance (weird, I know). Do you have vsync turned on in either Minecraft, or your GPU settings? If so, try turning it off. Also, have you ever gotten more than 30 FPS in Minecraft?

Not saying you are completely wrong but i have allocated 7gb ram and it runs as smooth as anything

Again, this is just going off memory (see what I did there), but the way Minecraft works, is it uses all of the memory it has, and then gets rid of all of the junk that it doesn't need. In fact, if you press F3 while playing Minecraft, you'll notice your RAM usage will go all of the way up, and then when it gets too high, it'll go back down to the minimum amount you need. For me, that's around 30% with the default amount of RAM, so in theory that's all I should need to use. The maker of Optifine backs me up in his Tips and Tricks section on the Optifine Topic. "Lauch Minecraft with less memory (yes, really). Usually it does not need more than 350 MB and runs fine on all settings with the default texture pack. By default java allocates way too much memory (1GB) which may get swapped to disk and the overall performance may suffer a lot".

Either way, I'd personally try running Minecraft with less RAM, and then with more RAM and see which one runs better. There's a forum post HERE which explains how much you should use. All-in-all, I think that Minecraft benefits from a CPU boost more than a RAM boost. I'd make sure you don't have any other background processes running. Close any web browsers, Skype, iTunes, Spotify, etc, and see if it helps. You can also update Java if you haven't already. Like I said, try turning VSync off if you haven't already. You could also consider getting the mod Optifine. I personally get a pretty decent boost with that.
