I purchased a brand new 1TB seagate external HDD to back up my computer. from the moment I plugged it in through the USB port my computer recognized the device as being plugged in but it wouldnt show up in My Computer, so I checked in disk management, my external HDD shows up in disk management but as only having 55.9GB of space and all of it being unallocated. When I attempt to initialize the disk I get a cyclic redundancy check error. how do I fix this disk?

P.S. CHKDSK won't work for this disk as the disk has not been initialized and doesnt have a drive path
P.S.S The HDD won't show up under CMD: DISKPART > DISK LIST

So I opened up the External HDD Case and found this... Note this is a Seagate 1TB external HDD, can someone explain why I have this instead?

I attempted what you suggested and Seagate sent me to a support Iso file that was a firmware update for the HDD but my computer didnt recognize that the HDD was plugged in so that didnt work...QQ
P.S. I do have the USB plugged in to the appropriate port (USB 3.0)
Oh and they didnt give me an RMA
