I know what's a page file and what it does. I need to know, how minimum (and maximum) it can be set without affecting system performance. If it depends upon the size of the RAM, I need to know what % of RAM is recommended as the page file size? I'm asking for windows installed in HDD, not an SSD.

It used to be recommended to set the page file to 100-150% of the physical RAM size.

why you need know? millions of people leave it as system managed.
And Win7 is reported to be very good at managing memory and page files.. so whats driving you to need fiddle with it?

I'm having friends with limited system memories like 2 GB, 3 GB, 4 and 6 with 320 GB internal drive (With <10 GB free in C: drive).. So, 4 and 6 not gonna affect much, so how about for 2 & 3 GB systems?

In a limited resource system like the 2GB RAM, I would go with the 100% of RAM. As soon as you start using that page file, your performance will PLUMMET. Especially with almost 0% free space on the hard drive. The hard drive NEEDS to be cleaned out to a minimum of 10% free space to not severely impact performance. With so little free space, it is probably horribly fragmented also. Your friend(s) need to start searching for hand-me-down parts to improve their systems or saving their $$$ to replace it.
