Hi All, looking to get some input on what to do with my GPU situation. I rebuilt my entire computer at the end of May & went with a GTX780, with the intention of going SLi within 3-6 months. However, now that the new GTX900 series has been announced/released & the GTX700 series will no longer be made, I'm left with a choice. Do I sell my current 780 & buy a brand new 980, once the non-reference cards come out. Or, do I buy a second ASUS GTX780, before they're sold out, & go SLi? I currently use a 24" 1080p monitor, but the plan is also to get a 1440p ASUS g-sync monitor in the next few months, so keep that in mind. Current system is:

i7 4770k
ASUS Maximus VII Hero
ASUS GTX780
ASUS VG248QE 24" Monitor
8GB DDR3-1866 G.Skill Sniper
EVGA 1000W

Solution
A second 780 will be better performance wise and keep you going for a long time, I had the Asus 780's in SLI and they are great on the Hero, just gave them to my son for his various projects and some gaming and picked up the 980 Strix, it's a great card...might SLI it a little down the road

Thanks for the reply man, but not really interested in 970 SLi. That being said, the GTX780 just went down to $379.99 in price (CDN) compared to the $589.99 I paid just a few months ago. Unless the 980 absolutely smokes SLi 780, I think that is the route I will be taking, unless someone convinces me the 980 is THAT much better.

Today, the 2nd 780 @ $380 will definitely return the most bang for the buck over the $610 980....

Spending $380 gets you about a 60% performance increase ... or each 10% gets you $63.33

With the 980 about 20% faster, you'd need to net $126.67 buying the 980 and selling the 780 for a comparable cost per 10% . So with the 980 at $610 up your way, you's need to get $483.33 on the sale of your used 780 and that ain't gonna happen.

of course if you can sell yours for

Thanks both for the insightful replies, appreciate it. The cost per performance is definitely way in favor of the SLi 780 at the moment, which is why I'm leaning that way. About to have to pay some major dental costs & won't have a lot ofextra cash for computer stuff. I think I will probably go the SLi 780 route, since it will be overkill for now & more than adequate at 1440p for at least a year or two, which is more than enough time for me.
