The 780 since the release of the 900 series have dropped price to right above the 970 which is what I was thinking about getting.
With this said should I go with the 780 or 970. The power conservation isn't really an issue for me, wondering simply on most future proof and best performance for the buck.
I know that the 900 series cards come with a base of 4gb of vram, while the 780 comes with 2gb, Should I go with the 970 for the extra vram or not worry about that?

Solution
GTX 970 actually outperforms the 780 so it should not be a VRAM bargain alone. Its a complete high end solution in $300-500 range. Betters the 770/ 280X/ 780/ 290 by a margin. 4GB would be utterly beneficial both for SLI and for higher resolutions.

go for the 970 without giving it a second thought
the 970 beats the 780 hands down
it is cheaper, consumes less power, has a few new features such as MFAA (a new form of anti aliasing which is better than MSAA), has double the VRAM
not only does it beat the 780 but also comes close to the performance of a 780 Ti
its a win win situation
u'd be making a huge mistake going with the 780
go for the MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozer 5 4G
its reviewed to be the bes 970 among all others

yes it is

GTX Titan is at par with 780, lol. VRAM was a deciding factor between 770 and 280X until a couple weeks ago.
