So I've scanned through a bunch of different topics giving suggestions on setting Stereo Mix to Default Communications device, muting all others, etc. and none of these work.

I've always used Audacity for this type of thing, and up until a month or two ago I've been able to record from my Stereo Mix just fine. Then for awhile, I was forced to use a male-to-male connector connecting the microphone and headphones (it was annoying to not hear what was being recorded, but it worked questionably well).

Now nothing I try works, and I'm not sure what else is left. I'm able to select and test the Stereo Mix, sure, but it's always dead silence now. I'm on an ASUS desktop that uses some Realtek Audio drivers/software/whatsit (which I suspect is the culprit). How do I use Audacity to force my Speakers/Headphones/Desktop audio to be recorded? Without an echo of course.
